Will “godless” Senate Republicans break their oaths to God, and acquit Trump?

See,

“So help me God”–U.S. Senate Oath of Office and Oath as juror in impeachment trial,” The Trenchant Observer, February 1, 2021.

This article contains the texts of the Senator’s Oath of Office and of the Senator’s Oath to Serve as an Impartial Juror.

What kind of person can swear an oath to God to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies foreign and domestic, and an oath to God to serve as an impartial juror in a Senate impeachment trial, and then break those oaths by refusing to reach a decision on the basis of an honest effort to weigh the facts and the evidence in the trial?

Apparently, that kind of person is a Republican U.S. Senator, such as those who did precisely that in Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial, which culminated in a vote of acquittal in February 2020.

What kind of person can violate their oaths to God in a similar fashion in the upcoming second impeachment trial of Donald Trump?

Apparently the same kind of person, indeed many of the same persons, Republican U.S. Senators all.

What has the country come to when politicians swear to God that they will uphold their Oath of Office and uphold their oath to serve as an impartial juror in the Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump–for inciting insurrection and tring to overthrow the government of the United States–and then violate these oaths, treating them as meaningless?

These Republican Senators hold themselves out as good Christians, most of them, or Jews, and almost all of them court the political support of evangelical Christians.

The latter seem to be most foregiving when these Republican Senators casually violate their oaths to God.

So, has the Republican Party become a godless party, which no longer considers an oath to God to mean anything, all in the service of abject adulation of a new false God named Donald Trump?

Their idolatry of Trump, and the lies they tell to justify it, violate the Ten Coomandments.

See,

I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me.

You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

So, we now have the Republican U.S. Senators who violated their solemn oaths to God in February, and who now appear ready to do so again.

If the Senator’s Oath of Office is meaningless, so too is the President’s Oath of Office.

And so too are those of all the members of the Executive Branch who take a similar oath.

If they do, they shall be forever known as the godless Republican Senators who broke their oaths to God, in abject subservience  to their false idol Donald Trump.

Their party, with their votes and those of the Republican Representatives in the House of Representatives, who have similarly violated their solemn oaths of office, has become the godless party of idolaters who worship Donald Trump.

May their erstwhile supporters never forget these facts, when these godless Republicans come up for re-election in 2122, 2124, or 2126.

For all history, let them be known as the godless Senators and Congressmen of the Republican Party who  worshipped the false god Donald Trump, and who bore false witness against their neighbors in their idolatrous support of their false god.
